Transform conflict into opportunity

If I told you that you had to run a marathon right now, what would happen?

For most people, they would say they can't. If they did it anyways, the result would be injury.

But some people do run marathons.

What's the main difference between those who do and who don’t?

Training.

People who train for marathons have no problem.

Most do it for fun.

Now let's look at conflict.

It’s something you can't choose not to do.

But it is something you can't train for.

So what’s the result?

Pain, broken relationships, unfinished tasks, pushing it off till later when it will be even worse.

You can choose to avoid a marathon.

You can't choose to avoid every difficult conversation in your life.

The difference is training.

That’s what we do, and we do it really, really well.

This workshop will teach you to take all those tough conversations, all the biggest anger,

all the nastiest things that you have to navigate in your work (and your life) and you can train for it.

And you can have it become an opportunity to be something that doesn’t hurt

How do you know you are triggered?

  • You need people to react in a certain way
  • Contraction in your chest or stomach
  • Tunnel Vision
  • Intense judgment of someone else
  • Believing they are “wrong"
  • Forgetting that the other person has complex feelings, motivations, and desires and they are basically good
  • Frozen
  • Spiraling thoughts

“I check my heart rate, breathing speed and heaviness, and the sensations in my chest (for something like tightness). Then I check my attention (does it feel easy to move at will, or is it stuck to something in a clenching-way not an excitement-way). I check my sense of expansiveness (does my attention encompass the room, the sky, the ground, or is it inside and resistant to being expanded.) Then I check how easy it is to imagine the world being different from how I perceive it, how easy it is to look out through someone else's eyes. If I don't have the mental space to imagine myself behind someone else's eyes (and the other indicators line up), I'm probably at least a little bit triggered.”

I’m hard-pressed to think of a more important skillset for navigating the modern world than learning to manage and regulate your own triggers, and to help others do the same. Peter’s UnTriggered class explores this challenging subject in an interactive play-space that's both fun and safe. Highly recommended!

In UnTriggered, I feel like a new journey was started for me in introducing some tangible skills to meet relationships in a way that provides authentic care for the individuals and room for the conflict without abandoning myself or my own leadership. I found the work engaging, edgy, fun, and supportive in my growth.
